Part 5 | Ahead — Towards AI that operates the computer itself

Chapter 13. Antigravity — working with AI in your local environment (free)

14 / 16

Key points

  • Antigravity is a free, agent-first tool where the AI drives the work
  • Reading across local files, batch processing and automation can be entrusted to it
  • Advanced. Start in a safe practice environment, checking as you go

What Antigravity is

Antigravity is a free tool from Google. It appeared in November 2025 and evolved substantially into Antigravity 2.0 at Google I/O 2026 in May 2026.

Where earlier AI tools were designed around the AI assisting a human's work, Antigravity is

agent-first: the AI takes the lead and runs planning, execution and verification itself

Think of it as one usable realisation of the agentic AI described in Chapter 12.

  • runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, and can be downloaded free from the official site (antigravity.google)
  • personal accounts are free; higher plans (AI Pro / AI Ultra) raise the usage limits
  • several AI agents divide the work between them

What it could mean for a therapist

Agentic tools like this show their strength in handing over what used to be manual. For example:

  • reading across folders to organise and consolidate material
  • applying the same processing in bulk to a large number of files (standardising the layout of every document, say)
  • automating routine work

The local knowledge base you built in Chapters 10 and 11, read across and extended by an AI — that is the kind of use that comes into view.

⚠️ Advanced — how to start safely

Honestly: Antigravity is the most advanced tool in this guide. It grew out of developer tooling, and it will feel unfamiliar at first.

Which is why the principles from Chapter 12 must hold.

  • run it first on an empty practice folder with invented files
  • never let it touch important files or folders containing patient information
  • watch what it is about to do as you go; do not leave it running unattended
  • always back up anything that matters

"An AI working inside your computer, for free" genuinely feels like the future. But that power is only worth having together with caution.

Getting this far puts you in the minority

Having reached here, you can

  • hand files to AI and summarise, rewrite and reorganise
  • keep a research environment of your own in Gemini Notebook
  • grow a safe local knowledge base in Markdown and Obsidian
  • understand what agentic AI can do, and how to handle it safely

You are firmly on the side of the minority described at the outset — the people who genuinely use their local files.

From "using AI" to "designing the work together with AI".

You have crossed that line.

Chapter 13 summary

  • Antigravity is a free, agent-first tool where the AI drives the work
  • It is strong at reading across local files, batch processing and automation
  • The most advanced tool here; start in a practice environment, with checks and backups
